Silverfish Prevention and Control

Silverfish are small wingless insects which get their name from
the animal's silvery light grey colour, combined with the fish-like appearance of its movements. They can be very destructive in homes, eating away paintings and other valuable household materials.
Silverfish are found throughout South Africa and are typically seen in moist, humid areas in the home, such as bathrooms, basements and attics.
So what do we do about them?
The main element to silverfish control is extensively inspecting preferred habitat areas and where appropriate food materials can be found. In the event the infestation is localized inside, one can suppose that it's recent and was either earned via infested items or represents a recently available invasion from the exterior. In case the infestation is common, then attention should be aimed to the exterior. Anything stored against or nearby the house's external must be relocated or removed since silverfish may easily climb up wall space and find access around screen and door casings, power pipes and vents. Tremble roofs also needs to be cleaned out and sealed almost every other year.
Additional silverfish control tips include:
get a dehumidifier for your home, repair leaky pipes and drains, and eliminate or repair any moldy or moist hardwood. Also don't keep old litter and garbage in areas where silverfish are usually found like basements, attics and garages. And it's really important to keep foods such as flour and sweets in tight storage containers.
When a silverfish infestation is suspected or found, you need to call a accredited infestations control professional to properly check the house and recommend the correct treatment method.
